Week of Action against workfare – Charities stop exploiting the unemployed!

November 15, 2012

From Boycott Workfare

Take action 8th December onwards

Many companies and charities have pulled out of the government’s workfare schemes when met with pickets and direct action that put these exploitative schemes in the spotlight.

But charities including British Heart Foundation, Scope and Barnardos and many companies like Poundland, Argos and Superdrug still subscribe to schemes which force the unemployed to “work for their benefits”. That’s why Boycott Workfare network are calling A Week of Action against Workfare, focusing especially on the charities involved.

You are urged to join the action which starts on Saturday, December 8th!

http://www.facebook.com/events/552862001405891/

You’re unemployed? Stand up against this exploitation: we won’t work for nothing to profit the rich! In work? Workfare attacks your wages and conditions, you could be sacked and replaced by workfare conscripts. If you care about human rights and dignity – join us. Our anti workfare actions are part of the global resistance to the austerity being imposed everywhere.

Why are we against workfare in Charities? We know first-hand what it really means.

Workfare helps hide swingeing cuts to support for charities by central government.

Real jobs that charity donors have paid to have carried out are forced onto the unemployed.

Many veteran volunteers have left British Heart Foundation in disgust as charity shops are swamped with unwilling conscripts. Workfare contradicts the voluntary ethos charities are supposed to uphold.

A claimant told us how his benefits were threatened after he left a Work Programme placement at BHF – where he was treated appallingly – and declined a placement at Barnardos. Only the intervention of Edinburgh Coalition Against Poverty prevented him being left penniless.

Many charities are losing skilled volunteers – as they are being forced to instead do meaningless workfare at companies and even other charities! The unemployed lose real skill-learning opportunities to be compelled to stack shelves.

Since our latest actions were announced British Heart Foundation have announced they are “moving away” from the Mandatory Work Activity scheme. This is encouraging – but we need an assurance they have actually WITHDRAWN from ALL workfare schemes.

Read our blog on what’s wrong with charity workfare for more and check back as the week approaches for leaflets, and online action to take as well!

Our message is simple: If you exploit us, we will shut you down!

Please tweet, share, blog, spread the word!

If humane Britons stick together we can close down this pernicious rubbish from this EVIL unelected shower of shite that calls itself a ‘government’. I will NOT give any donations to so-called charites like the British Heart Foundation.

I actually emailed British Heart foundation last week and asked them to say if they are still using the unemployed who are forced to work in there shops……… Still waiting for a reply so i am assuming they still do!
So don’t donate anything or use these shops until they stop this forced Labour
Hit them in the pocket ,money seems to be the only they understand.

I agree with you Steven, I always call them The British Heartless Foundation because of all their animal testing, so I’m not at all surprised they are taking advantage of unemployed people!! I would like to be able to get my hands on anti-workfare leaflets so I can stand outside of some of these nasty places and approach people before they go in, but I have no clue where I can get any?

Hi all as you know i`m one of the one`s Atos have tuned down and say i`m fit to work I am still fighting W&P on that so no movement yet although i have to say my overhaul health has deteriated over the last few months could well be down to the cold weather as well, its a choice at the moment with the short fall in what they now pay me if its goinbg to be have the heating on or eat. I have written just to let our good friend Dave “the tosser” Cameron how things are and have told him if anything should happen to me over this winter it will be placed right at his door.. Anyway just some information if any one is interested I got a letter the other day from one of his mouth pieces usual rubbish we pay out £billons a year and we have to cut down yad-yad ya anyway he did say if I thought I had a complain against the service I got from Atos at the exam I could lodge a complaint with them and he gave me the name and address [ not a smart move on his part] so the other day I have lodged a formal complaint as i no longer trust any of these people thought it only fare that others should get a copy just in case it goes missing so have sent copies to the general manager plus the CEO in France and the Tribunal Service. I didn`t know i was able to lodge a complaint so something good has come out of sending letter after letter to our fiend.
So if anyone else would like to send in a complaint this is the guy you want and lets spoil his life as much as their firm has ruined ours,
