Chatham – Day of Action Against ATOS – 30/9/11

Organised by Medway Against Cuts
ATOS Origin are the private company employed by the Government to assess disabled people’s ability to work. ATOS have become notorious for declaring people fit for work when they are clearly nothing of the sort. 40% of people win their appeal against ATOS assessments rising to 70% when they have legal advice. In the meantime those wrongly assessed have their benefits immediately stooped until after their appeal. This has caused a lot of misery and in some cases suicide. ATOS have been criticised by a Government’s Independent Report last year and more recently by the Work and Pensions Parliamentary Select Committee.
Picket from 12 – 2pm Friday 30th September
