Edinburgh – Day of Action Against ATOS – 30/9/11

September 28, 2011

Friday, September 30 · 11:00am – 1:00pm
Atos building, 44 York Place, Edinburgh

Atos is a company paid millions to carry out medical examinations on behalf of the government, with the purpose of determining if people are really entitled to sickness benefits.

… Disabled, sick and mentally ill people are put on trial to prove they aren’t able to work.

In these examinations, you are no longer deemed to be a person deserving of humanity, dignity or respect.

If you do not fit into precise tick boxes and meet very specific and complicated criteria, then no matter what you say, no matter what your doctor says, no matter what is glaringly obvious, you are fit to work.

Now I want you to imagine you become very ill…….

Everyday is a struggle for you and you cannot work, so you reluctantly survive on benefits.

You are called to a medical examination with Atos, where you are treated as a liar, a scrounger and a cheat!

You’re benefits are taken away. You are left feeling humiliated, cast aside and have no money to live.

How will you feed yourself?

How will you keep a roof over your head?

How can you prove you are sick when you have too little strength to fight.

You will be told you must look for a job in one of the worst job markets this country has ever seen.

This is wrong. Tell Atos this is wrong. Tell your MP this is wrong.
Tell David Cameron this is wrong.

No to cutting sickness and disability benefits,
No to £500 million pound government contracts with Atos,
And no to Atos medicals!

as my profile says i have mental health issues as well, and the government do not help in any way.
I was at college doing a 3 year art and design course i finished last summer and got the usual diplomas & certificates. Had to sign on at the local jobcentre and thats where the fun starts the people there are inhuman.i appreciate that they are doing a job blah blah blah.
But i am a woman of mature years now and i found that i wanted to go to the dentist rather than the jobcenter, and for me thats a big ask believe me! Every two weeks i would start to get ill just before i had to sign onto the point where i was in tears in public in front of the woman spaeking to me,and i wasnt actually understanding what she was asking me-about anything.
The harpy behind the desk must have gotten fedup with me because i was told that i was unemployable and to claim esa. The sicklines from the doc the appointments that i had to keep to explain to the doc what was happening, then the “medical” what a bloody joke that was. As you can imagine my nerves ahd kicked in,i was very ill- shaking, sweating, and sobbing my flipping heart out with the sheer stress of being put through an ordeal like that in the first place. According to my notes from said “doctor” i appeared quite timid but not shaking and not sweating and the rest was absolute guff-he was in the wrong proffession it should have writing fairytales mind he was about the same age as Hans Christian Anderson!!!
Have been quite ill today not coping with this at all. Now i can barely deal with all this myself imagine those poor souls out there that are iller than me. I cant say that i am surprised that the mentally ill have committed suicide over this-the government banter on about Pc this and that, they should practice what they preach. If i survive the trauma of claiming Esa it will be a pleasent surprise because there are so many obstacles set in the way of genuine claimants i just wanted it all to end mysef. The indignity of it all is simply unbelieveable.
